How to Map a Newspaper CMS Tech Stack Before You Buy

A CMS rarely works alone. Draw the systems around it, identify who owns each connection, and test the entire journey with sample content.

Quick answer

A newspaper tech stack map should show the CMS, website, analytics, advertising, newsletter, subscriber or payment service, archives, and any mobile or ePaper products. For each connection, document the data exchanged, owner, failure contact, recurring cost, and test case. Confirm integrations in a live demonstration and written scope rather than assuming a feature list means systems are connected.

Draw the systems around the editorial record

Put the CMS at the centre of a diagram, then add the tools that read from it or send information back. A typical publisher may use separate services for email, analytics, advertising, subscriptions, image storage, mobile applications, or ePaper. Your actual map should reflect the publication, not a generic vendor diagram.

For each connection, write down what moves: article text, image files, a publication event, a reader account, a payment status, or a campaign report. Mark whether the process is automatic, staff initiated, or a manual export. This turns “does it integrate?” into a question the supplier can answer precisely.

Assign an owner and a failure path

Record who maintains each system and who responds when a connection stops working. A newsletter delivery issue, a broken ad placement, and a missing article image may involve different providers. The publisher should know where to report the problem and what readers will see while it is being fixed.

Include recurring charges, data access, authentication, retention, and cancellation terms. Ask what happens to records if the publisher changes provider. A low initial price can leave costs hidden in custom integration work or support arrangements.

Test one real story from start to finish

Use a representative story with a photo, a regional language if relevant, and a planned update. Follow it through editing, publication, analytics, and every destination your newsroom uses. Check the URL, image credit, metadata, and expected tracking signals at each step.

Request a written list that separates included product functions, configuration, third party services, and custom work. SaraBiT Media can demonstrate its current publishing, ePaper, multilingual, image, and reel workflows; ask separately about any external system your stack requires.

How SaraBiT Media fits

SaraBiT Media can show the CMS and publisher workflows in a product demonstration. Bring your stack diagram and required destinations so the team can confirm which capabilities are available, which require an integration, and what belongs in a written implementation scope.
