Assign access and a review cadence
Verify the right people have appropriate Search Console access and that each domain or relevant property is covered. Name an owner for sitemap status, indexing issues, security alerts, and reporting.
Set a short recurring review that fits publishing volume. Include editorial and technical participants when a trend needs both story context and implementation changes. Avoid reacting to normal day-to-day volatility as if every movement requires a site change.
Connect queries, pages, and reader intent
Compare queries, pages, impressions, clicks, and click-through rate over meaningful periods. Segment by device, country, section, or content type when the sample supports a useful conclusion.
A page with impressions but few clicks may need a clearer title or may not match the query. A sudden drop can have multiple causes, so compare dates, technical reports, publishing changes, and seasonality before drawing a conclusion.
Turn findings into owned actions
Route indexing or sitemap errors to the technical owner, content gaps to the relevant editor, and template issues to product. Record the page, evidence, proposed change, owner, and follow-up date.
Check whether the fix worked without promising a ranking outcome. Search Console informs decisions but cannot guarantee indexing, traffic, or a particular result.
