Need help choosing the right news website CMS India platform?
What data should a publisher be able to access?
List articles, pages, authors, bylines, sections, categories, tags, media files, captions, credits, dates, canonical URLs, redirects, and any custom content fields. Include relationships between records, not just a folder of exported text.
Identify data held by connected services such as analytics, newsletters, apps, advertising, or ePaper. The CMS export may not include those records, so document each system and its owner separately.
How should an export be requested and delivered?
Name the authorized requester, identity-verification process, support channel, expected response, delivery method, and format. Ask whether the provider can produce a complete export on request and how large media libraries are transferred.
Test a sample export before signing a long-term agreement. Confirm that the team can read the files, understand the schema, reconnect media to articles, and preserve the original timestamps and identifiers.
What should an exit plan preserve?
Keep a record of URL rules, redirect mappings, author and taxonomy conventions, integrations, canonical settings, language relationships, and deployment contacts. These details often matter as much as the article body when rebuilding a publisher website.
Agree on notice periods, transition assistance, access during wind-down, fees, and deletion or retention of copies. Get specific responsibilities in the service agreement and review them if the hosting or platform scope changes.
How can a publisher reduce migration risk?
Export periodically where the service allows, protect copies with appropriate access controls, and rehearse restoring a sample into a safe environment. A usable export reduces uncertainty if the publication needs to move under time pressure.
Keep the exit plan current alongside the owner/support checklist. A practical plan is part of selecting a CMS, even when the publisher expects to remain with its current provider.
