Inventory the real WordPress system
Record posts, pages, custom post types, authors, categories, tags, media, redirects, feeds, custom fields, shortcodes, plugins, advertisements, analytics, forms, subscriptions, and mobile integrations. Crawl the public site as well as reviewing the database because rendered URLs and plugin behavior may reveal dependencies the data model does not.
Map content and URLs before importing
Decide how each valuable content type and URL will behave in the new CMS. Preserve relevant paths where practical, create one-to-one redirects where they change, and document content that will be consolidated or removed. Validate headlines, dates, authors, images, embeds, canonicals, and internal links on staging.
Rehearse launch and monitor the aftermath
Prepare DNS, cache, redirect, analytics, advertising, feed, sitemap, and rollback responsibilities before launch. Afterward, watch server errors, crawl data, Search Console, rankings, traffic, publishing operations, and revenue integrations against the recorded baseline.
