Need help choosing the right news website CMS India platform?
Set the first-publication threshold
Document which facts must be confirmed before a brief goes live, which details may be attributed to an identified source, and what remains unverified. The duty editor should be able to pause publication when a claim, identity, image, or location needs another check.
Prepare a short first-update template that states what is known, when it was checked, and when readers can expect more. A concise verified update is more useful than filling a page with guesses or unsupported detail.
Assign an editor and an update owner
Name one editor responsible for publication decisions and one person responsible for collecting the next verified facts. If roles rotate, keep the handoff visible in the CMS or newsroom desk log so a shift change does not leave a live story without an owner.
Set a realistic update rhythm based on the event. Each update should add material information, correct an error, or explain why the newsroom is waiting. Avoid changing the timestamp without a substantive update.
Keep the public story and internal record aligned
The public article should distinguish confirmed information from what is still developing. Internally, preserve source checks, editorial approvals, time-stamped changes, and the person responsible for each update. Limit access to sensitive unpublished details according to role.
If the CMS is unavailable, use a rehearsed publishing fallback that retains editorial review and records who approved the update. Once the system returns, reconcile the public article and internal history rather than leaving multiple unofficial versions in circulation.
Review, correct, and close the live story
When a material fact changes, update the headline and body promptly, explain a substantive correction clearly, and preserve the correction record. The Society of Professional Journalists’ voluntary ethics guidance calls on journalists to gather, update, and correct information throughout a story’s life.
After the event, review whether readers received accurate updates and whether the duty desk had enough support. Use the findings to adjust staffing, approval rules, and the next breaking-news checklist.
